Translation: Week 2 of One Local Summer and Day 1 of Local Food Month! Tonight's meal was all local, although nothing at all fancy. We were all tired from a busy week and the little one was tugging at mommy the whole time, so it was a "let's have something good but quick" night. It will be much easier to have some delicious and creative meals when hubby gets home at the end of the month. Not only does he really appreciate and participate in meals, but also usually helps with the little ones while I do the prep and cooking!
Okay, so what did we have tonight? Our very own M4-D Ranch Round Steak, cut into very thin strips and flashed in a hot pan for 1 minute with a splash of worcestershire sauce. A baked potato from the local farmer's market with butter, salt and pepper and some fresh blackberries from the local farmer's market. The potato and blackberries were from farms within 50 miles of our home. Not local was the organic butter, salt, pepper and worcestershire sauce.
I know, no real veggies but there was fruit and when you have a 5 year old and 20 month old as your dining partners you don't always need to have several items on the plate. So we all ate steak, shared the potato and the blackberries were the biggest hit of it all. My 8 year old is spending the night with my mom and they were having some of our M4-D Ranch t-bone steak.
How are your local meal planning efforts going?
