One Local Summer, Week 9

Tonight was a fabulous One Local Summer meal. We had another week of temperatures in the 100s with no rain in sight. This makes the third straight week of 100+ degree temps and no measurable rainfall on our pasture since June. So it seemed fitting after a hot, sweltering day to have a light and refreshing vegetarian meal for dinner. We occasionally have vegetarian meals, and this one was a welcome treat!

Tonight's veggies are all from within 60 miles of us unless otherwise noted:

Sauteed Vegetables - local cabbage, red onion and green bell pepper sauteed in olive oil and butter with a dash of kosher salt. All from our favorite produce vendor, Lor's, at the Farmer's Market. Not local: olive oil, butter and salt.

Purple Hull Peas - Also from Lor's - cooked just right with a dash of salt. Served with my homemade Texas Corn Relish.

Fingerling Potatoes - boiled and served with a dash of salt and some butter. Hubby picked these up at the Farmer's Market, but I don't know the vendor.

Fresh Sliced Tomatoes - Also from Lor's - served with a dash of salt and a vinagrette dressing that wasn't local.

Homemade Cornbread made with Purple Cornmeal - not local, as the cornmeal was ordered from our food co-op. But delicious!

Dessert wine after the meal was a fabulous Nivole Moscato D'Asti, 2005 vintage, that hubby brought home with him from Fort Knox. I'd never had this dessert wine before but it was delicious. Light and crisp and just the thing to finish off our tasty summer meal.
