$30 In Kroger Grocery Savings!

##### KROGER GIFT CARD WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT #####

After taking out comments with no email address and duplicate entries, the random number generator has selected DEANNA as the winner of this Kroger Gift Card!

Congratulations to DEANNA and to all who stopped by to leave a comment, with a special note of thanks to My BlogSpark for offering this to my readers!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~Original Giveaway Post ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I participate with a group called "My BlogSpark" that will occasionally offer me items to give away to readers here or to pass along savings coupons, etc.
Well, I have a great one for you guys this week -
How would you like to win a $30 Kroger Gift Card? I received one this week and will be sharing with you later how far I managed to make my $30 gift card go at my local Kroger store. General Mills and PepsiCo are sponsoring the giveaway of these gift cards to readers across the country.
From August 16th to September 2nd, Kroger is having a Mega Savings Event. You can visit http://www.thekrogerco.com to see the stores that are participating in this event.
Here's how the event works:
When you buy 10 participating brands and use your shopper card at checkout, you instantly save $5.00. And there is no limit on the number of rewards per transaction. You can look for the double yellow tags in the store.
So that's effectively an instant $0.50 saving on each of the ten things you purchase. Here are some of the brands offering the savings: Aquafina, Betty Crocker, Cascadian Farms, Cheerios, Cheetos, Chex Mix, Dole Juices and Juice Drinks, Fritos, Fiber One, Gatorade, Green Giant, Hamburger Helper, Lipton Tea, Nature Valley, Pepsi, Pillsbury, Progresso, Quaker, Sobe, Totino's, Tropicana, Yoplait and many more.
Here's what you need to do to win a $30 Kroger Gift Card:
1. Leave a comment here and tell me how you try to stretch your grocery dollar these days. Do you buy in bulk? Do you shop daily? weekly? monthly? Do you batch cook and freeze? What works for your family, especially now that school is getting underway?
2. Make sure I have a valid email address so I can notify you if you win.
3. Winners will be announced Friday evening , August 21st (after I get children to bed!) so we can get your card out to you in time for you to use it during this Mega Sales Event.
That's it - tell your friends!
Well Summer is definitely winding down and it makes me sad. However, it is also a great feeling to get back into a structured schedule. The garden is also dieing out and that is how our family saves on grocery bills in the summertime. We love all the fresh veggies out of the garden. We get tomatoes, corn, peas and squash mainly. I love to use them fresh out of the garden in casseroles and such. We buy groceries on a need be basis and shop at a variety of stores! It is hard these days to make your grocery dollars stretch and is definitely a challenge. A gift card would certainly help out!!!
We try to save on our grocery bill by freezing leftovers to use later in soups or casseroles. We often shop at Aldi - we can always find great deals there. Also, I've tried to cut down on the # of prepackaged convenience foods that we buy. Instead of juice boxes or water bottles, we pour our own drink into a reusable water bottle. Can't wait to read some more ideas!
Stretching our budget this summer is definitely the garden. We have been blessed with a bounty of beans, cucumbers, and squash along with peppers both hot and sweet. We try to shop weekly for perishables and shop wherever the best prices are. We love ALDI for dairy products! Using only cash at the grocery store helps us stay on budget.
LOL...love this :o) Of course we stretch our dollars as far as they go...we are feeding 10 here :o) I like to make the pennies roll over and yell momma.
I buy virtually everything in bulk quantities and try to maintain a well-stocked pantry to eliminate the dreaded weekly shopping routine. On average, we stock once a month unless a great sale comes up.
One of my favorite stock-ups is when places like Kroger have their 10 for $10 sales. We can stock some dry items we wouldn't normally buy then. Looks like I'll be stopping there during their sale you have listed...
I buy in bulk at Costco. I also have lots of veges in the garden but one of my favourite ways to save is the Kroger "manager's specials". They put orange stickers on items that at close to the buy by date. My children and I skirt the outer edges of the store looking for the orange stickers. Typically they are half price or less and still have a while to be eaten.
Nonperishables I stock up on when they are on sale. Kroger is good for that with their sales. I will almost always leave with nothing but sale items and items with orange stickers.
We've been participating with Grocerygame.com. They match the sales with local coupons each week. It's been a good way to get some nice things we wouldn't normally eat cheaper! :D
We use coupons to double when shopping and try to buy in bulk, and try to make some househould products that we would normally buy.
How we stretch our grocery bill:
We are going back to when I was a child - instead of buying all the pre-packaged items (yes, I know...we love them too!)my children make their own and put them in snack bags (which we also rinse out and reuse) and drinking (gulp!) WATER (who knew? it's cheap and good for you!).
1) Peanut butter crackers = peanut butter + saltine crackers
2) Flavored Water - make a pitcher for the day with either orange slices, lemon slices or cucumbers to just give it an extra taste.
3) Fast Food - order McDoubles for $1, bring your own water bottles (we take these whenever we start errands for the day in the car with us) and a bag of chips.
4) Costco Chickens - pre-baked and yummy for dinner, but keep the bones and boil them while you are dining with some water, celery and carrots - instant broth for tomorrow's meal of chicken and dumplings (leftover chicken from tonight) or vegetable soup.
5) Don't throw out your left-over vegetables...even if you are only keeping 1/2 cup!!! Put them in a snack bag and in the freezer. When you get a door full of these vegetables, toss them with some broth and water in a pot and you have a delicious soup. My kids LOVE this because the flavors are so different depending on what vegetables and spices have been used. I also keep any left-over taco meet, chicken, etc. too and toss that in there with some noodles. YUMMY!
I stock up when things are on sale. I also take advantage of the stores who allow you to use a store coupon as well as one from the manufacturer om the same item.
We save money by buying raw ingredients, in bulk or larger quantities, and storing them in sealed containers or our freezer. We have a family of eight, so keeping a good budget is very important.
We keep a stock bag in the freezer as well so when I have a turkey or chicken carcass or beef bones, I can make stock and freeze that for our use.
I make just about everything we eat from scratch, including yogurt, preserves, buttermilk, bread, you name it. It costs us pennies on the dollar, is much more healthful and tastes better.
I like to look for the orange manager's stickers at Kroger also....along with buying in bulk and stocking up when items are on sale. I also recently learning how to can...and am still learning.
Oh, I scan for the orange tags, too! I always check the organic dairy products, organic produce and bagged salads for them. I check the general organic products, too, but I always check the above three. We can often get organic, whole food products for less than conventionally grown/produced.
I stretch my grocery budget by combining sales and coupons, planning my meals around what's on sale and stockpiling when the price is right.
Buying in bulk when I find things on a great sale or in the clearance section really helps me save. Also, freezing leftovers for a quick & easy meal.
Menu planning really helps out our family. Scanning the sale paper for what meat is cheap that week and then pulling other essentials from our pantry to compliment it.
I try really hard to menu plan every week and base our shopping off of only what we need. I only buy in bulk for non-perishable foods, but try not to buy too much in bulk b/c I find we end up not using stuff. I also look for coupons and search for different ways to double and stack them (something new to me!)
Kroger is my "go to" store for great deals pretty much on a weekly basis. I've gotten into the habit of freezing larger amounts of leftovers (instead of letting them go bad in the fridge) and very rarely eat out of lunch at work anymore. Gotta make those hard-earned dollars last!
